About Me

Melissa Bruen is a multimedia reporter for The News-Times in Danbury, Conn. She covers Newtown and area police, as well as shooting video and occasionally having her photos published alongside her stories.
She graduated from the University of Connecticut in May 2008, with a B.A. in journalism and political science. In college, she was the editor-in-chief of her student newspaper The Daily Campus and a freelancer for The Associated Press. Her prior journalism experience includes interning at the Hartford Courant, as well as being the Managing Editor for the Human Rights News.
She loves traveling and photography and enjoys reading, painting, drawing and playing softball, basketball, soccer and tennis.
